BANDAVGARH NATIONAL PARK
Bandhavgarh National Park, spread across an area of 105 km², is located in the Vindhya Hills of the Umaria district in Madhya Pradesh. It is the most popular national park in India. Bandhavgarh National Park was declared a tiger reserve in 1993 and a national park in 1968 under the project tiger network at the neighbouring Panpatha Sanctuary.
The name Bandhavgarh has been derived from the most prominent hillock of the area of Umaria. Bandhavgarh was once a hunting ground for maharajas of the area.
The national park has 37 species of mammals, 250 species of birds, 80 species of butterflies. The park is home to the largest breeding population of leopards and various species of deer.
The park has been divided into three major zones:- ‘Tala’, ‘Magdi’ and ‘Bamera’. Tala zone is the most popular zones out of the three. To increase the chances of spotting a tiger, elephant shows are organized in the Magdi zone.
The vegetation at Bandhavgarh includes various ranges of vegetation, from tall grasslands to thick Sal forest. Because of ample vegetation in the park, the chance of spotting animals is high in Bandhavgarh, making it quite popular among the tourists.
